We invent our opinions of people based on our own needs, prejudices, and expectations. What we think about others says as much about us as it does about them. For public figures, this "invention effect" is even more pronounced because the only way we know them is as figures of our imagination.

His campaign has united people of widely divergent demographics in common goals. I feel like I am no longer one feeble voice mumbling my thoughts. Obama has tuned up many voices in my neighborhood, and has persuaded us to sing in harmony.
